In THEORY it shouldn't matter. In practice, if you take a scope off and leave it unattended in a dark place for even a short period of time, Scope imps will find it and twiddle with the turrets thereby making it shoot wonky.

    That's fact that is.

What's less well known is that it just does. Shouldn't but often does. It might be unnoticeable at short ranges but what harm is there in checking the zero once the scope has been off.

if you use a weaver / picatinny rail and some good quick release mounts it should be there or thereabouts BUT when using on live quarry to make certain of an accurate / humane bullet placement we all re zero BUT its a one or two shot affair.

Some mounting systems dont afford this rigidity or repeatability so the zero can be a good way off........most red dots and there applications i have mostly used are on rimfires and I always check the zero......distance is limited too with most given the MOA of the dot itself.....less distance / potentially less drift?

    Welcome to the BBS.

If the mounts are a good fit, with the clamps the right way around, all nice and plumb, and without shims or packing - Then it should usually go back on within a few clicks!

Slight differences in torque on the screws, and/or a slightly different position on the dovetail, should be about it.

There's more than just scope mounting that can change your POI, mind. So its good to check zero and practice often, as said above.

    Scope worries

Mark the scope rail with a bit of TipEx and you should never have a problem when returning the scope to it's original position
