Webley Hawk MK1 - broken rear sight

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me please.
The plastic rear site leaf has broken off on my Hawk MK1. I have tried gluing it with super glue and Butanone and even welding with a soldering iron, but every time it falls off after one or two shots.
I am thinking of relacing the leaf with a metal (home made?) version but I cannot see how to take the damn thing apart!

Does anyone know the correct disassembly for the rear sight?

    Thanks in advance,
    Richard.

    Some thoughts

No doubt someone who knows better than me will be along in a bit...

I had a Mk2 Hawk back in the day , & I think the Hurricane pistol sight is the same. They are still available. Don't know if it'll fit a Mk1.

According to Chambers, the spares no for the rear sight leaf is OS 337 but they are out of stock.

Plastic soldering is a bit of a black art, especially on a small part. I've done it on m/bike bits, using a soldering 'gun' with a specialist tip, & a plastic knitting needle to melt into the break. But I don't think it would work, unless you are experienced or have a very steady hand.

Disassembling the rear sight? Take lots of pictures from different angles, & remove one screw at a time. & take pictures at every stage. My digital camera is one of the favourite items in my toolkit now, whether working on push/motorbikes or guns. Oh, & watch for small springs making a break for freedom - don't ask me how I know!

    No screws!

    Hi, thanks for the info.

There are no screws that I can see. The elevation adjuster does not want to completely unscrew, it seems to jam as the leaf angle increases.
The only thing that might come off is a tiny push on washer/clip thingy (technical term), and I am not sure how to prise this off.

    Regards,
    Richard.

    RichardH - thanks

    Hi RichardH,
thanks for your kind offer. I would like to take you up on this.
I am currently working in Oslo, but I will be back on Friday.
Perhaps I could send you the money by PayPal?

By the way, I am right in thinking H4H is the Help for Heros charity?

    Regards,
    Richard.
