In the days we could purchase by mail order, sure I saw the S&W sold as a deluxe boxed kit with all 3 barrels. Not sure if that was a pellet or bb version.

Has anyone ever seen the 686 (nickel finish) with 4 inch barrel? I assume the 686 was sold with a 4 inch barrel at one time? Only the 6 inch version is available new.
IIRC a three barrel 686 set was sold on here some time back (4", 6", 8").

Both the 586 and 686 were sold 1998-2006 in any of the three lengths, or as the full set.
Since 2006, the 586 has been available in 4" or 6", and the 686 in 6" only.
The S&W 586 set is 4" 6" & 8" barrels and is .177 pellet
Thanks Steve
I sold a 4 686 last week.
In its box marked accordingly.
Thanks for the replies. The gloss 586 is the best looking pistol, the 686 is marred by a black magazine. However, I have seen examples of the 686 where the magazine has been polished which improves the appearance (guess the matt black mags polish fairly easy). The 4 inch pistol has a nice balance about it, so I will look out for the 686-4, now I know they are not too rare.
In the dim and distant past, when a British citizen was free to own such things I had a Dan Wesson.357 Magnum revolver which was supplied in a smart black attache case with 2.5", 4", 6" & 8" barrels; two sets of grips and a chunky, embossed Dan Wesson belt buckle.
It truly was a thing of beauty and it broke my heart to hand it in for crushing/melting.
The South of England has 2 good things, the M1 and the A1. Both will take you to Yorkshire.
