10m pistol - how do I tighten my groups?

I've been shooting 10m for about four months and can now put ten shots in the black of a standard target. How do I now progress from this; to start getting small groups?

    Any tips very much appreciated.

    Ps I'm using a FAS 604 mkII.

    Thanks Ian.

    I feel somehow enlightened!

I could be doing all sorts of things wrong as I'm "self taught." If I popped up to the chicken shed some time, could I get some tips from you? There's no point practicing rot!

    Cheers

Thanks Ian. I'll take you up on that. I'll bring a foam brick if that's okay?

Thanks Aimstraight. There's some good stuff on there.

something simple to try is shooting on a plain white target as it improve your sight picture.

Mind you. There threats seem to be working.

    I shot this tonight, 10m single handed (using a Walther LP400, R10s, 4.50).

Mikes (MikeC4) comments at the bottom of the card refer to a club tradition. If you score a 50 you offer to make everyone a brew. If you score a 50 in competition its a brew and biscuits. The secret is to slip one into the 9 ring.

The best thing to do is to 'dry fire' or even just practice holding the pistol still, and with the sight aligned. Start off doing this for 15 seconds at a time, working up to 30 seconds a time. This will give you muscle memory, and assist in providing core strength required for pistol shooting.
When you shoot you should be thinking about quality.... 40 well aimed, well considered shots will make for a better training session than 100 shots randomly blasted down the range....
Enjoy it! It's supposed to be fun!!

Totally agree that is until someone puts the club 'tower' target onto the rifle range and throws down a handfull of empty CO2 canisters then its Free For All (safety first) where expensive match pistols shoot shoulder to shoulder with the Walther CP88s etc. "Sod the 50 ex 50s I want to get that canister first! "
