    Air Arms diopter sight

Please could anyone tell me if the Air Arms diopter sight will fit on a 1980's HW 35 as my eyesight is not good enough for the standard rear sight
    Thanks

Is that the same-as-Gamo one? If so they fit standard scope rails.

Dave, measure the size of the rail, as 1980 was the year they changed from 13mm to 11mm,( around serial number 755000).
If it is 13mm you have to search for a old model Weihrauch diopter.

It's the same as the Gamo. At £29 I don't think you can find any cheaper.

Personally though I'd look for a used FWB or similar diopter, 100x the quality.

As pointed out, if you have an 11mm rail.

You'll need to fit a recoil stud of some description. The dovetail clamp will locate the diopter, but doesn't stand a chance of staying put without some assistance.

The best way IMO is to drill and tap the base (in the correct location! once you've had a trial fit).
M5 or M6 buttonhead hex looks neat and is a sensible size.

Spin a nut on the bolt. Grind/file off the thread that will engage with the action, cut to length, spin off nut to tidy up the threads and refit to diopter. HTH

Sight came today from Logunner. Great gesture. Will also follow 18 wheelers advice about securing

You don't hang around! Nice job, and my favorite version of the classic '35 too.

If you want to darken down your recoil stop you can get a decent "heat blueing" result on SS just using a gas hob. Degrease first and holding with some pliers (!) I use a blow torch to do mine, but I've managed a similar result on the cooker as an experiment.

You don't want to overheat it, just to an orange/light orange, and personally I don't quench them as I want to avoid excessive brittleness. A couple of trial runs and you'll have the hang of judging the colour.

Or use chemical black/spray, but the above might save you needing to buy anything extra for a small job. Apologies if the above is teaching you to suck eggs.

Happy shooting with you nice 35 Luxus.

Thanks 18 Wheeler. As the sight is a black paint finish I will give the arrester screw head a waft over with paint
    Cheers
