As the BSA No 8 sight was available either fitted or as an after market accessory at the time these early BSA air rifles were first sold I didn't have any reservations about fitting one, especially as the rifle is shot on a regular basis.
Instructions are available within the BSA booklets on Danny Garvin's excellent website which describe the process for correctly positioning the sight on the stock.
As already stated, make sure you source a sight with a shorter stem which are more suitable for use at air rifle ranges.
I must admit to using a couple of small pieces of 'Blutack' to temporarily hold the base on the stock in the aim position before permanently fitting the sight.
