    Classic v regal

Personally I think the differences are minimal and not a lot to do with how the gun performs. I think the Regal was brought out to boost sales, There are many who just have to have the very latest.
I have a huntsman classic and find it a well balanced accurate and reliable gun, I could not ask for more, I don't really care if the chequering now is wrapped further round the stock.
If you can get a bargain price on a classic that's what I would go for.
When I die don't let my wife sell my guns for what she thinks I gave for them!!!

I prefer the looks of the Classic.
But the Regal is full of new internal mods which the experts say make it the better gun.
But I agree that looking for a bargain Classic is an excellent idea.

i have just bought the new regal. and im a theoben fan its my first daystate. and first impressions. well its supposed to have a titaninum valve and new workings to improve the action and shot count etc. with a 200bar fill i chronied 5 mages and got a variance of over 35 yes 35 fps spread. with ftt between 750 and 715 = 10 ftlb .= pants.

but it is accurate, the hammer noise is quite loud. its a good click. like a hammer hitting an anvil. bit too noisy actually. its going back to the airgun center for
    a) they dinged the stock in 4 places!
    b) to raise it to 11.5fp and see why its so inconsistant.
over all. not massively impressed. wish i had bought a second hand mk4. and the mag is supposed to sit lower in the action. but it doesnt. still need high mounts.

I 've had three Classics and two Regals. I really tried to like them because I love the look and feel of both types.
The fact is that all five were low on power out of the box, all were way louder than my other PCPs and all were very inconsistent over the chrono. I've given up on them now.
There was little or no difference in the performance between the Classics and the Regals. The titanium valve is there for exported fac guns and makes no difference to sub 12fpe rifles.
If they shot as good as they look I wouldn't have anything else but they don't.

    Huntsman classic v's regal

i have an early .22 huntsman classic with a shortened shroud & it's very consistant & accurate but I have noticed how more recent daystates while looking better seem to be a cheaper build quality & less reliable. Mine had a slight problem with accuracy when fitted with a long (HW) silencer which also made it unweildy in the feild, both cured with the shroud shortening. But I got it secondhand at a bargain price so wasn't too bothered. I would have been had I paid the full new price.

i have a regal in .177 and its fitted with the mk5 sound mod. and its soooooo quiet. the action is the same and the power was only about 13fps between the 80shots. mines does 800 with a 7.9 jsb. think the jsb are best in the daystates, mine also likes the li,s thoo to. am also a theoben rapid fan.... but the regal is so light and nice to carry around.

Ive got a regal and huntsman and to be honest they both shoot the same but the regal is more air efficient and provides much more shots with the new internals and longer cylinder, it is an upgrade to the huntsman in some ways but still performs the same if not a little bit better, mine also had low power but was consistant over the chrono with a spread of about 13fps over two magazines, it was returned from daystate doing 11.7ftlbs using bis mags which is probably as close as youd like to get without going hot, mine also liked jsb over anything else, saying that ive also never had a gun more consistant then my hw100 so if I was to choose between a gun to pick up and that I could have faith in to perform its my hw100 im afraid all day

Intresting, I have been saveing for one of the Classic models, I bought an Huntsman FTR of here last year and to be honest its very , very good for a 16 year old gun But really cant see much difference in the Classic or the Regal apart from some very ( to my eye) cosmetic differences.

I bought mine, Regal XL .177 used and it does have a spread of 15ft/s. At a full fill 210 Bar it does around 760s with JSB 8.44 and it goes up to about 780s after a 20 shot string.
It is actually doing an average of 11.6 ft.lbs with the JsB 8.44s. I have recently read enough posts to suspect that there maybe something in this guns being set too low across manufacturers. Like yourself I could accept 11.4 or so but never a 10. something gun.

The Regal has a two piece cylinder, whilst the Classic was one piece, Daystate say that this was to comply with future regulations to do with pressure cylinders.

The Regal has a slightly different design of Harper valve that is more efficient & combined with the new, longer cylinder gives around 80 full power shots compared with 60 for the Classic.

As far as design goes I don't think there's much advantage with the Regal. I had one which the loading bolt was as rough as a rough thing, common in the early models. Also, with the introduction of the Regal, something changed with how Daystate set up their guns. Mine gave 10.5fpe, & this seems to be the default with the Regal, despite protests from Daystate that they're set at 11.5fpe or thereabouts. In my experience, the only ones that do are those which have been reset by their owners.

Of the two, I prefer the Classic, just a personal thing, but mine performs consistently, is accurate, looks different to most other air rifles (as someone has said like a rimfire with no pronounced bottle or cylinder) It's been very reliable, & is a doddle to service yourself, with very few O rings used in assembly & hence fewer points to leak.

We've all had good & bad experiences with most of the major makes. Some because the design is flawed in some way (BSA regulators & poor shop floor assembly disciplines; HW overly complex industrial strength design, prone to leaks & somewhat heavy for a carry gun; Daystate barrel shrouds & those mentioned earlier, Air Arms, overly thin barrels, prone to knocking out of true & multi shot magazine issues. To be honest, it's a struggle to understand where the engineering & cash value is in a PCP.

You need to know which pellet Daystate set their guns up with, 10.5 might be with JSB 8.4 for instance but what is it with Bismags?

People get too hung up on power outputs, 12ftlbs with 8.44 is 802 fps, so your going to have to be at least 780fps to be safely under, 10.5ftlbs is 750fps, so your really quibbling about 30fps.

If you set a rifle at 11.8ftlbs as some suggest your going to be well over if the Police test with Bismags!

I do know which pellet Daystate set my Regal with, it was typed on the test sheet & said it was set at 11.3fpe with them. It wasn't

Each to their own, but if the maker says it is giving a specific output, then that's what I'd like it to be.
