I,be just finished a brown CR-X stock. Sanded all the finish off , though it left some stain in the laminate. Used water based black wood dye , which was simple to do and went on without any streaking. Put several coats of dye on until I was happy with the colour of the finish. Then clear coated it with 2K clear coat applied with a £15 spray gun, both off evil bay. Rubbed any dust out of the final coat with 2000 grit wet and dry and polished it with finish polish form Halfords and its turned out really well. Looks like a black version of the original you can still see the laminate through the dye and clearcoat. I've never sprayed anything before so if you know what your doing with a spray gun it should be a doddle for you.
