.223 reloading for a rem700 sps

having just made my first 5 rounds to try out does anyone have the above rifle with a 1:12 twist and use a combo of h335 and amax 52gr bullets.looking for any info to help my load development,cheers

You are going the right way with your bullet choice, the A-MAX's are superb in my 22-250.
What is the charge weight you have used in the 5 rounds so far?

start weight was 24gr

According to the loading data I have for this powder, the STARTING LOAD weight for 50/52 grain bullets is 24 grains and for 55 grain bullets it is 23 grains

The MAXIMUM LOADS for both bullet weights respectively are 26 and 25 grns, so this will give you a lot of lee way to find the most accurate load for your rifle.

H335 is listed as the most accurate powder tested for the 55 grain bullet, so you have made good choices with both components.

may be stating the obvious but take it youre loading for targets not vermin as v max explode better have used both but at the moment using 50 grn blitz kings (sierras) as they are boat tails and seat easier cheers

after spending another day at the range the results are in.
best load to date is h335 26gr+52gr,bt sierra matchking.2.25" c.o.l
this was better than all my varying loads of vn133 with the same bullet and the non bt.loads went from 23.5gr up to 24.5
just need to fine tune the c.o.l to get a better group maybe
what would be the increments in thou to adjust by ?

Are you suggesting that the 52gn Amax aren't suitable for vermin?
If so, there are many who will disagree.

52gn A max is great on those foxy targets. Most accurate ballistic tip I've tried.

right little update.i have switched to v133 and 24.25gr,2.244 col and the groups have improved.today i have loaded up some more with bench rest primers.the guy in the shop suggested that they might work better in my rem 700 as they are as he put it a little sloppy.has anyone found this to be true ?

My current pet load of the 223 is using 53gr V-Max loaded to a COAL of 2.285" 24.8gr of Vhit133, Nosler brass and CCI BR primers. They leave the muzzle at 3260fps and seem to do the biz

Rem 700's can be a little sloppy, I've even come across one in 22-250 where the chamber was cut so oval you could only get a fired case back in the chamber in the same orientation as it was fired.

That said I like the 700, and most can be made to shoot very well with normal load development. Anything you can do to make your load repeatable and uniform is only ever going to help and for what extra they cost benchrest primers are likely to help not hinder you.
