The SU had an adjustable cheekpiece. On earlier models it consisted of replaceable cheekpiece blocks of different heights, but I think on the last SU models it was adjustable by raising or lowering. I think the SU was designed more as a three-position target rifle (Universal); there may be other differences, I am sure someone else will know more.

SU had a different stock (mine did a anyway) more rounded that the flat bottom taget stock of the S model. Also had removeable front sight and actually came with two different height tunnel sights and rear sight raisers to support the adjustable cheek piece, early one has two separate hight cheek piece whereas later were adjustable, Zooma will be able to correct me if any of this is wrong and he would be welcome to do so as probably has far more knowlage than me on FWB300's. Have a look on his website "bobs airguns" and you can see examples of both versions, internally I think they were exactly the same.

Definitely were on the S model. Never seen a L/H SU but that's not to say they weren't available, the SU can be a little harder to come by and used prices are normally slightly higher.

Lefties were available, although I've never seen one in person. Here's an early SU leftie.

Garvin's excellent VAG (Vintage Airgun Gallery) is always a good starting point for information. Have a look at the FWB section, here, it shows the main three SU variants and there's a selection of brochures too. HTH

I imagine the SU would be heavier.

The mechanics of the 300SU are the same as the 300S but the rifle is configured with a different stock, higher front sight and riser blocks under the rear sight to give a better "heads-up" shooting position.

Very few of these rifles were made (when compared with the volume of the 300S) and they were sold at a premium price that was higher than the standard 300S.

If anyone is interested I have two SU rifles for sale - one with the two different height cheekpieces and one with the later type adjustable cheekpiece. I will probably keep the one that does not sell as they are lovely rifles to shoot but offer them both for sale as I retire and downsize.

Both are in really nice condition and both shoot very well.

    SU service?

Just bought a lovely 1984 SU but It's a bit twangier than I expected. Anyone know of someone who could service it in the South East? Kent or East Sussex, preferably.

You could post it to Dave Mercer (DM88 on the BBS) - he does a lot of the gun trades repairs so it may end up with him in any case but I can also recommend Dave Price (wonky donkey on the BBS) from Telford in Shropshire as being a really good Feinwerkbau specialist who does a good job at a fair price and is a bit closer to you.

    HERX77 .
As it happens I have a "brand new" one still in its original FWB hard (green coloured) foam box. It is so old it is probably a collectors item now apart from being a very handy item to anyone who needs a new sight for their FWB Match rifle.

I have had this for years (since the 70's ?) and have taken it out of the box a few times but cannot remember ever fitting it to a rifle as I have never had an FWB rear sight fail - but I must have thought I had a use for it at the time
