    22 Hornet: Nosler 40gr Ballistic Tip

    Can anyone give me some info on the recommended seating depth for the 40gr Noslers? I have some left over from the 223 and I'm going to give them a whirl in the Hornet.

    Cartridge length to the lands appears to be a consistant 1.995." I've seated them to 1.895" but will seat them further again depending on what you all suggest. I'll be single loading these of course.

    I've loaded some 12gr - 12.6gr with Lil'Gun and the cases seem pretty full at 12.6gr using Winchester brass. Didn't want to compress the loads too much for this experiment

    Tikka T3 Varmint .223; .204 Ruger CZ527 Varmint;

    According to my "one book/one calibre" overall length 1.723"
    with lil-gun 11gn = 2644fps, 12gn = 2858fps, 13gn = 2979fps that's with Winchester brass.

    Thanks for that. That's a great help! I'll tweak them some more in the morning. Must admit, they do look pretty long. Do you think the powder will be ok compressed?

    Does it say which Nosler's? That sounds very short more like a hollow point, also they do a 40 gr varmint which is flat base and therefore shorter (black tip) and a 40 gr boat tail which is longer (orange tip) assuming yours is the latter I'd go 1.85" elliot

    Edit

    Not a bad guess, nosler's data says 1.723" for the flat base HP or tipped (varmageddon) and 1.845" for the spitzer ballistic tip

    Thanks for looking

    The flat base is the only one nosler list for the hornet in my book.

    Have you tried the Barnes yet mate ?

    They're even harder to get hold of than the Barnes! No not yet, prepped and primed the brass so will try load them this week and test the following.
