    Sheridan Silver Streak CBW

Got a nice minter nickel Silver Streak with Williams peep sight come in for spit and polish before going to market. Thought I would chrono the different fps readings according to number of pumps. Was not too impressed with results.
    11.42 grn .20 pellet
    1 pump 0 fps
    2 275
    3 375
    4 427
    5 470
    6 506
    7 521
    8 549

There is a big increase in fps on the first few pumps but the increase tails off the more you do. I used to do body building when I was young but now 70 and thought 8 pumps is enough especially after I squashed my little finger under the lever.

Maybe the pumphead seal needs replacing?

I have a Silver Streak and a Blue Streak, No idea of the muzzle energies as I shot my Chrony dead and the Combro doesn't really fit to the Streaks very well

EDIT- Due to speed reading I completely missed the last bit- If it's hard to pump then the pump seal is doing it's job as there would be little resistence when pumping

That's the second time in a week you have hurt your hand with a pump up gun Baz.
I think the message is clear.

    Sheridan rocker data

I used to make an exhaust valve for these with only one exit hole, ( It had to be aligned with a supplied tool )
& Also a threaded pump rod, These lifted the output substantially !
The idea being to use less pumps per 12 Fpe, This was regulated by the hammer spring,
    & Also a Silencer adapter,

I still have a number of spares & 2 Incomplete actions, Some Pre-charged Sheridan Pics, Etc

Sheridan output data ( I cannot find my uprated numbers ) Around 25%

Silencer adapters , ( Most went to the states ) I kept one

John, I see you are a fellow chrony hunter like me. Shot mine about 5 times but it wouldn't die so I now made it pellet proof with steel plates.

Ged, looks like you really like these rifles. I do not own one, this belongs to an RFD but with me it is nostalgia, I remember seeing my first Sheridan .20 55 years ago and wished I could afford one. My mate who had it made a die to push .22 pellets through to size them down to .20.

A lot of rifles seem to shoot "well" until you actually measure the fps. My friend who owns the rifle is quite happy with it, mainly as a collectable due to its lovely condition. I would have put a new hammer spring in but it was expelling all the air from the pressure chamber on firing and there was no air left in for a second shot, which would be a sign that the spring is too weak.

Ha ha ha!! Yep, 'Fraid so!

I bought two new displays for my Chrony F1 (Which I killed within 24 hours of buying it new!), By the time i'd found out where to buy the displays and ordered them, I'd go no idea where i'd put the F1, Eventually it turned up but then I couldn't find the displays

Luckily a few months later they turned up!!, Now i've no idea where i've put my soldering tackle

The Combro flew well, I used my cleaning rod to find centre with the Combro, I used it with a mk2 Airsporter, Found centre but forgot to tighten the clamp, It went down the garden at great speed, After this I earned my monika 'Chrono Slayer'

You can test for a leaking air chamber by using the max 8 pumps and then letting the gun sit for a period of time. If the velocity goes down substantially then there is air leaking out of the air chamber.

First step with these guns, if you don't want to do a full maintenance, is to use some pneumatic oil: I always have recommended Crosman oil but any good oil intended to work with pneumatic air guns should be okay. You want to work some into the pump area to lube the pump-head and to work it towards the exhaust valve. Oil worked over the surface of the valve seat can clean the surface and stop any leakage.

MAC-1 in Los Angeles has an array of Sheridan upgrade parts that are all highly recommended. http://www.mac1airgunshop.com/steroid-parts-s/1838.htm

Thanks Dean, will try some PellGun oil and work it through. Will have to get rifle back from the owner, he has it up for sale.

If the hammer spring good should dump all the air and leave non for second shot, I was getting up to four shots from a cut down spring

Four shots at what energy ft.lb.? Thats what we are getting at, as my one was only 7.64 ft lb for 8 pumps. My HW 95 .20 puts out 670 fps with one cocking action to give 11.38 ft.lb.
