Chief Constable Phil Gormley hailed the response to the three week campaign as "fantastic".

Scottish Justice Secretary Michael Matheson said the response to the amnesty was "extremely encouraging".
"The new licensing regime is not a ban on air weapons but a means of ensuring people can use air weapons in a regulated way without compromising public safety," he said.

Yes because before everyone was wandering around the streets shooting eachother wondering why there isn't a licence.

    Dear Mr Matheson,

How is a piece of paper going to prevent an unlicensed air rifle from killing a toddler?

    Yours sincerely,

    You are an idiot.
The only reason why this law was eventually passed was because the Home Office devolved that part of the Firearms Acts concerned with air guns to the political small fry who currently run Scotland. Against all logic they just had to flex their muscles. I still believe the whole process will turn into a crock of shit which costs a fortune and makes those responsible look like idiots.

That's it exactly, Salamander. Obsessed with flexing their muscles and nonsensical posturing to put them in a contrary position to the rest of the UK. Just because they can.
As things stand currently, over 95% of the estimated 500,000 airguns in Scotland are still with their owners. Even if the percentage falls further before the end of the amnesty, that's still an lot of guns out there. A lot of licenses will be required or should be required.
I think they're going to be busy.

With a bit of luck the UK gov will not go down the licensing route simply because the Scots did it first.

It didn't stop them with the council tax, smoking banned in pubs, etc. Seriously, though, I don't think they will, but it's all about events, isn't it?

Comparison. In days gone by how many of us owned a compulsory dog license? (if we had a dog that is) and how many of us were actually asked to produce one? TV licenses anyone? It's still your choice regardless of the 'law'. F' em.

Yes but apart from that, Mrs Lincoln, what did you think of the performance?
