Polishing stocks ...

Can anyone recommend an Oil or Wax that can add a shine to flat looking stocks ???

If the stock has an oil finish, try CCL stock wax, I've had some good results using it

Birchwood-Casey makes a good stock wax, comes as a liquid and gives a nice semi-gloss sheen.

I often use old-fashioned Johnson's paste wax, very durable stuff, nice sheen and quite inexpensive. Particularly good for a typical factory varnish fiinish I think. Minwax and others have similar products here in the US, no doubt other similar products are in the UK under different names.

Another good one is Renaissance Wax, sold here as a specialist wood finish, a bit pricey but really looks nice. Very thin and unobtrusive in a way, makes things look the same only better if that makes sense!

I do love Renaissance Wax, it makes metalwork look like it's been reblued, but find that it can make stocks a bit too slippery!

Walnut stocks:
Trade Secrets Burnishing Cream does a lovely job on stocks.
It's a wax and very fine abrasive. Rub it on, rub it off and you're left with a nice lustre. Want it shinier? Repeat process as required.

Lacquered/varnished Beech:
Give it a light rub with some Brasso and buff off.

Oiled of lacquered stocks?
For lacquered stocks I use MCGuiars car stuff.
The paint cleaner first, than the polish, than wax. (clay normally not necessary with gunstocks)
