The Fenman has a 7in barrel. PCP's need a longer barrel to make more efficient use of air. Rate of twist, type of rifling, choke, quality of manufacturing, crowning, etc. all come into it. (not to mention lock-time..! )

What do you guys think on the length of rifle barrels.
As an example the the HW77 comes in at 370mm as a carbine version and 470mm as standard.
The HW97 which only comes in a carbine version has a barrel of only 300mm and the BSA Lightning is only 254mm.
The way they are going they'll end up no longer than a pistol.
I always thought that a longer barrel made a more accurate shot or do you disagree.

The ox is slow, but the earth is patient.
a local guy who does a lot of airgun repairs apparently said that a 9'' barrel is as accurate as a longer barrel.i guess thats on springers.
Carbine length barrels for spring guns makes absolute sense, i.e. the pellet has exited the barrel before the recoil causes the gun to move. With a full length barrel there's a chance the recoil will move the gun off target before the pellet has exited the barrel and, no, you cannot hold a spring gun dead still, nobody can or should even try to, you have to let a spring gun 'have its head' and roll with it. Get it right, and there's nothing more satisfying ... well, apart from sex of course. Regards ... Geek

Everything you need to know about barrels for air rifles. Don't go to short on a springer and make sure it's choked or you end up with as Paul Watts says "A heavy recoiling mess"
