Ranges in Chippenham?

Mrs Snapshot: What sort of people use rifle ranges?
Me: People with rifles, of course. Why?
Mrs S: There's something on this map of Chippenham marked 'rifle range'.
Me: Ta. I'll ask about it.

Does anyone know if there really is a range in Chippenham and if it's a club, military or what?

Hi,

Not too sure i can help but im only aware of 2 ranges of any description in or around Chippenham, the first is on an old RAF camp just over the M4 called Hullavington. The other is at the barracks in Colerne not 100% on Hullavington but Colerne is def 30m (95% probable that Hullavington is too)

**Edit** Oooops, forgot to mention Rudloe Manor. Only been there a couple of times (not to shoot) and i assume they must have one too.

Don't believe all you see on maps. The current OS map of my area shows a rifle range just down the road from me. Took a walk down there a while back. It's still possible to see where the firing points were, and there's a reasonable amount left of the butts, but it hasn't been used as a range for a number of years.

We also have The Ranges in Devizes - inndoor range for airrifle and
Barbury FTC, just outside Swindon (where I shoot).

There are also lots of rabbits, hares, fox, deer (and even a big cat if you can find it, thought to be a black panther or puma) ... if can get permission from a farmer.
