Leapers bug buster 3-9x32 AO - am I doing something wrong?!

Bought this scope recently for its ability to focus at very short ranges but took it to the club and tried it at 25m and just could not get the target in sharp focus... Anyone know much about this? I'm wondering if being set up to perform at very short ranges means it's out of its comfort zone at moreusual ranges? Also struggled to group well which I wasnt sure if possibly due to parallax error? I thought an AO scope would eliminate this but perhaps not? Any advice gratefully received!

I use a couple of these and like them a lot-

However they need setting up for your eyesight to get the best out of them.

Do you wear glasses and do you take your glasses off or not when you shoot? Whichever you do be consistent and adjust the ocular lens until the image is sharp. You may be surprised (as I was) at how much you need to wind out the ocular lens! But once you get it right then it will be pin sharp at all ranges and what's more the range shown on the objective bell will be pretty close to what you expect.

Good scopes but as I said above need setting up for YOU to work well.

Did you focus the crosshairs first? I.e. via the eyebell. If your eyesight is less than perfect and/or you don't use your glasses to shoot, the eyebell will need adjusting, indeed it may anyway.

Thanks guys, that's encouraging! I do wear glasses, including when shooting. I tried briefly fiddling with the ocular lense but didn't seem to improve things... What's the correct method of settng this up? Many thanks for your input!

If you shoot right handed pick an object which is about 20m awaythen set the AO to 20m. Use the eyebell to fine tune the focus of the obect whilst still being able to clearly see the reticle.
You can spend thousands and still miss a barn door or spend just enough and enjoy yourself. If you haven't got the talent to start with a million pound won't fix it. Whippet, Russell, a few bang sticks and a flat cap. http://www.smart-tech1st.co.uk

It's a broad generallisation, but myself and many glasses wearers end up winding the eyebell all the way in... it could be different for you, but try the extremes and then fine tine as directed above...
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Point the gun ito the sky and adjust rear focus until crosshairs are as sharp as possible. The front focus should then work, do it by eye, don't take too much notice of the distance marks on the bell, they are often wrong.

it might be the scope mate! great scopes, i had one a while back and sold it with a rifle to musclefox on here. but IIRC he had a problem with it and sent it back for a replacement - though i could be wrong?
But you may want to try putting it out of focus with the a/o. look through it at a blank background like the sky or light coloured wall. then adjust the eye relief until it is sharp and very black in colour (the reticle). then leave the eye relief alone and then try adjusting the a/o to the distance you want. it should then be ok (in theory). i have found that the eye relief, if set wrong, can ofter play havoc with the parallax/focus on some scopes. i wear glasses occasional but mostly wear lenses if that helps.

Never done it like this but always willing to learn something new.

    update...

Tried adjusting the eyebell and found the best reticle focus to be with it screwed in all the way... I wear glasses 100%of the time and am short sighted with fairly big astigmatism. Not sure what this means to be honest, can't remember where it was at the club so will need to go and shoot some more groups to get an idea if this will have solved things... Thanks again all for the advice, if this doesn't work I might just go back to iron sights!

One of the guys at my range had a optically corrected camera lens fitted to the ocular of his scope to cure his problem
