Do gas ram guns produce higher ft/lb using lighter pellets much in the same way as a springer?
I'm guessing they do as the ram is akin to a spring, but have never fully understood why springer's prefer lighter pellets and pcp's heavy ones.

Ignoring a lot of important factors (such as pellet fit, barrel length, swept volume (springer), valve duration (pcp), etc..), generally springers will impart most of the energy in a high pressure burst at the start of the pellet travel, whereas a pcp will maintain a lower pressure for longer, usually until the pellet exits the barrel. In a pcp, the lighter pellet has gone before it can take full advantage of the greater duration.
