    Rammers - light pellets?

Do gas ram guns produce higher ft/lb using lighter pellets much in the same way as a springer?

I'm guessing they do as the ram is akin to a spring, but have never fully understood why springer's prefer lighter pellets and pcp's heavy ones.

    thanks in advance

basically, yes, especially the 31mm ones.
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Ignoring a lot of important factors (such as pellet fit, barrel length, swept volume (springer), valve duration (pcp), etc..), generally springers will impart most of the energy in a high pressure burst at the start of the pellet travel, whereas a pcp will maintain a lower pressure for longer, usually until the pellet exits the barrel. In a pcp, the lighter pellet has gone before it can take full advantage of the greater duration.

As a rule of thumb, yes, but rammers are far more tolerant of heavy pellets than springers...
