Vihtavuori n120 with 55g vmax or blitzkings ???

    Hi Lads
I have some Viht 120 powder, can this be used on 55g vmax or 55g blitzkings, if so what would be the suggested starting load, to the maximum load. This is for a 1 in 12 twist Tikka 223.

    Thanks lads Dave (warbucks)

According to Quickload N120 is a suitable powder for the 55gr Vmax and a 223. Max case PSI is 55,000 (SAAMI spec) and 21gr of this powder predicts PSI at a little above 54,000 with 100% powder burn and a good 32% Ballistic Efficiency with fps a little over 3100 and a case fill around 96%. I would suggest a start load of around 19.5 gr going up in .3gr increments.

As always, any reloading data given out on forums must always be regarded as a 'guide' only - always watch for pressure signs when working up loads

    Hi Dave,

I believe you've already talked to Loiner1965. I worked up the load he uses for 50 and 55 vmax with n120 before he moved to 53 vmax.

I only went for that powder rather than n130 as I got a kilo free but the results were great.

The load I Settled for for both 55 vmax and Hornady 55 SPWC is 20.5 grains of N120 and its used in a straight pull SGC ar15. The vmax I load to chamber length and the SPWC I load to the cannalure without crimping.

Of the three weights I got on best with the 50 vmax and 21.8 grains of n120, with this load Loiners varmint barrel remmy 700 will put 5 rounds in a 5p coin at 100 meters when he does his bit right.

These are safe loads in Loiners and my rifle but make sure you start lower and work up to what works in your rifle.

    Hope this helps

    Rick

    Just like to add......
Ricks ar15 tactical rifle was a lovely rifle to look at and in fairness it was bloody accurate too.
My rem 700 as all the bits on to make it shoot perfectly and you would expect between the 2 rifles it would be a one horse race in the shooting department.
In all honesty I personally believe it was as accurate and was on the day who would come out best.
Shows you what you can do if you take your time and perfect your reloading data to match powder / bullet/ rifle in harmony.
I think the ar wasn't case fussy either like my Remington too

Hi Dave, not tried 120 but I struggled to get a good group using 133 when I tried it. Funnily enough I've been shooting the 55gn V-Max today using CFE223 and got good results. 3287fps from my 1:12 twist Tikka T3 Varmint using 27.2gr

    .22LR CZ452; .22 Hornet CZ527
    Tikka T3 Varmint .223; .204 Ruger CZ527 Varmint;
    6.5 Creed Bergara B14 HMR
