Check out late 1980s editions of Guns & Ammo for articles on handmade big bore air rifles and pistols that Bowkett used to produce for the US market. Pistols and rifles in .50" calibre amongst them with spectacular exhibition grade claro wanut.

so .....what m/v would you expect out of that at 12ft lb ?

i know it depends on pellet weight ........dunno how to calc that for o.50 ...so lets guess at 2x a 0.25 @ anything from 20grain to 30 grain ..call it 50 g for a nice round number ......

    high 320's max ha ha

i'd like to see a trajectory curve for that .....

do you think it would be recoilless ?????

ha ha just watched a bit of the vid ..163-4 fps with his 200 grain slugs

12ftlb those slugs probably wouldn't even leave the barrel.

Previously I was struggling to understand why people would bother with them, but when he said the ATF don't classify them as firearms it starts to make sense.

A large caliber pre charged air gun is nothing new http://www.guns.com/2011/03/15/the-g...nder-pressure/ they say it was comparable to a modern .45 acp round so that's between 280 and 830 foot pounds of muzzle energy

Like many "facts" this myth gets picked up and repeated but unfortunately is far from the truth.

It had to do some damage other wise it would have never been used in battle, it is credited as the first repeating rifle, from what I have found out it was used as a sniper rifle at a distance of over 100m

Yes it was removed from service but only after 15 years, probably the amount of time it needed to fill the air resivour (about 20 mins and 1500 strokes of the pump), the seals not doing the job and the safety of the resivour were the downfall of this pcp

Look on YouTube, some one has built a replica using modern seals and resivour

    Big bore air rifles

I spend a lot of time in Bulgaria, .35 and .50 caliber are common here. No fac docs required, just a police notification to say 'i am in possession of this rifle' no fees no visits.

I live 60 miles from where I can get my air bottle filled so I asked about something with a higher shot count.. result a .25 Sumatra tuned to 170 joules on full power! 112 ish ft/ lbs if my maths are roughly correct. It is a accurate hooligan rifle

    Still enjoy my 12ft/lbs though.
