    Logun S-16 Power?

    Hey all

First post here and asking for some help

Just bought a 2nd hand s-16 from my local freeads and so far it "LOOKS" awesome but i have a few problems...i also have a ratcatcher and was told that the s-16 would be alot more powerfull but....ITS NOT!?!?!

From what i can see so far its the same and at times maybe less powerfull!!!

My ratcatcher has been modded to make "more powerfull" but i expected the logun to be alot better...

really gutted considering this cost me £290 and its just not as good as i hoped

any help on how to make it better would be great!!!!

I had a similar problem when using crosman 14.3 grain pellets. It was chrono at 10.5
On advice from Logun I changed to Logun penetrators 16 grain and it then chrono at 11.8
    Hope this helps

    Hi Wes,

Welcome to the forum mate, I hope I'm the first to reply to your post, with a FRIENDLY warning - an open forum is not the place for someone to tell you how to adjust your gun's power. First of all it needs proper testing with a chronograph to see what the actual power (energy at the muzzle, measured in FPE or foot pounds energy) is. If your gun is found by the police to be exceeding 12 FPE, with whatever pellets they choose to use for the test, you could be looking at the wrong end of 5 years inside (unlikely I know but it COULD happen.

Get it tested, get known on here, and perhaps in the future someone MIGHT be prepared to help you adjust it within the legal limits.

All the best and safe and happy shooting!!

Your Ratty runs at "full power" yet you expect more from the S16!!?? Why?
There are limits on UK power levels and the S16 will have been manufactured with this in mind. There are devices called chronos that measure the power of a gun. Go along to your nearest club and ask to use one there.
The best mod for a S16 is to wrap it in a wheeliebin. It really is a pile of junk. Not what you wanted to hear I'm sure but that's the reality. The S16 has a VERY bad and well deserved reputation. A few worked fine but most did not.

I don't like the S16, but it does have a few good points.
    1. They are very quiet.
Could this be the reason you think it's not at full power?
    Get it chronoed.

    2. The one I had a go with was extremely accurate.

    Thats it really!!!

They are too heavy. The magazine is crap. The cocking is crap. The reach is too long. The early ones needed fettling from new.
The list goes on.......and on.......and on.

Well i suppose the only thing wrong with this gun is that the legal limit just SUCKS!!!

I wouldnt say the actual gun sucks

    It looks awesome!

    it shoots 100% on target!

the magazine far from sucks compaired to most rifles!

only bad thing i can find is they are VERY heavy!

Im also shocked just how silent it is with the silncer on it

I think i shall take it to the local shootin range(greenfileds in canterbury) and test if its underpowerd....

    Thx for the replys

You need to know the weight in grains of your pellets to accurately ascertain the power of your rifle when using a chrono. You have to be dead accurate with the weight because 1 grain can make all the difference between legal and not legal.
Take it to a gunshop if you are not sure. If someone on this BBS lives locally, they might help you for the price of a pint!

Grains refers to the weight of the pellet. The higher the figure the heavier the pellet. To keep within the law heavier pellets have to travel slower than lighter ones. Precharged guns like your S16 generally make more power (up and down a ft/lb or so) on heavier pellets. The Police can seize and test your gun on whatever pellets they like so if your gun is doing 11.5 ft/lb (limit is 12) on a light pellet it may well be doing 12.5 on a heavy one. That will mean at best your gun is crushed and a criminal record and at worse a stretch inside. Heavier / slower pellets will give a more pronounced trajectory than lighter / faster ones. Definately go to your local club. You'll learn at a faster rate there than anywhere-else.

    Have a look here http://www.pellpax.co.uk/acatalog/_22_Pellets.html
    for the pellet weights

    and here http://www.theoben.co.uk/customer/pages.php?pageid=5
    for the conversion calculators .

Buy yourself a combro for £40 brand new (may know someone with a secondhand one also ) .Then you can test your gun whenever you want .

Hmm wonder what it'd do with bismag (21.4) then - 13-14ft/lb?!!

11.8 @16grns too close for comfort IMO - not worth 5 yrs with 'big reg' as your bedtime companion (actually 6 months for just an OTT airgun, assuming no other offence, but still a long, long time!).

Anyone setting over 11.4 with 16 grain pellets is just asking for trouble. Key word is 'capable of over 12 ft/lb' and as Darren said the Police can use any projectile they want to test your gun with.

At a cost of c. £300 per test they're likely to want a return on their outlay!

Wes are you sure you're weighing in grains? - '9' ???
