Mineral oil, it works well, but you still have a hard core so need to be carefull with the temperature

My En 8 and En 3 arrived today, when I get chance I'm going to case harden a length of each and see what breaks.
I managed to bend the en3 at 90 degrees without failing, using my scientific test method , a vice and a 2lb hammer .
to be fair, Nicks method is probably closer to real use conditions - impacts from repeated cocking and lateral jolts. And it's more fun
