    I think I got a bargain today ...

Just asked Webley if they can date it by the batch and number under the grip.

Avery nice find and a bargain too at that price.
Nice to find it with the spare barrel complete with linkage, plus the overstickers on the box front label.
    Well done.

Webley will not be able to date it from the batch number.
The number under the top of the left grip is the complete batch number, with the usually three numbers on the front of the spring guide being the last three digits of that number.

    Yes! a real bargain!
It looks to have the longer knurling on the barrel, that together with
the prewar box with over stickers suggests that the pistol is post war and made before September 1949
at which time the knurling was shortened to finish before the linkage.

I see, the grips had 2198 and the guide 189 I think. Thanks !

Is the grip not shown in the photo blank - ie not marked 'Webley' - ie as on a pre war Senior?

Well done Mike. Are both grips marked Webley? Also, is the barrel linkage marked with the patent number?

    Kind regards,

    John

Both grips are marked Webley. Can't see anything on the barrels apart from the calibre and a letter S. One of the barrels has less knurling so must have come seperate from the original purchase. The cylinder has Webley Patents written on it. Thanks for the info

Thanks Mike, I'd date this as possibly wartime production or immediately postwar 1946-49.

    Kind regards,

I'm with John on this one for date. It's what I meant in my previous post.
