    Plinking with the 22 Hornet

Just a little clip of some plinking at 180 yards with the 22 Hornet using 35gr V-Max, 12.5gr Lil Gun, CCI 400 primers and Winchester brass: https://youtu.be/IPeERvGJtaw

Hi Scott, yes it was. Most shots were connecting towards the left hand side of the plate due to the crosswind.

I was suprised the 35 gainers connected at all to be honest. As you know, they don't seem to do terribly well after 100 yards. Out of about 16 shots I connected with 14. I think the wind blew the rest off.

I find they're good out further provided its not too windy, looks good fun either way!

Nice groups! What powder were you using, H110? I found that even 0.1gn made a difference using Lil Gun.

With the 40gn V-Max, mine went from > 1" group using 12.4gr to a nice group with 4 out of 5 bullets touching using 12.5gr. That was with a COL of 2.900.

Temped to play about with seating depth next but might just leave it be!

They're with lil-gun, the 40gn are Sierra soft points rather than 40 V-max, I can't see the point in rounds that don't fit the Mag.

Is that a SAK mod in the vid ?

That's interesting, I've got some 40gr Sierra Hornet specific bullets to try out too. With 10gr they won't be going very fast though, will they?

The 40 grain V-Max that I use are loaded using a single shot sled which is pretty easy but, admittedly, not as convenient as a mag. It gets me by all the same.

Yeah it's a SAK which is fine for light use. I'm actually in the process of buying a DM80 from Dave Mercer as we speak.

    The Sierra average 2536fps with 10gn, 2690fps with 10.5gn.

    V-max are 3200fps with 12.2gn.

    Barnes grenades 30gn are 3400fps with 13.7gn.

I'm suprised the 40gr Sierra bullets go so fast with such little powder. Really curious to know how fast my 40gr V-Max are going now with 12.5gr of Lil Gun!

I take it you are using Remington brass to be able to get 13.7gr of powder in the case? I struggled to get more than 13gr in my Winchester cases. Must try the 30gr varmint grenades. Were they any good?

Sorry, my fault I assumed having referred to my "K" so many times people just knew.

Mine loves the Barnes 30gn, Boydy's also got them & I think had good results, In fact I've never read or heard a report of a Hornet that doesn't like them (but the 36gn are rubbish)

Had a chance to chrono the 40 grain V-Max today and found that they were averaging 2,960fps which I'm pretty happy about.

Also pleased that I was regularly smashing coke cans at 200 yards this afternoon in a pretty strong 14-16mph wind.

I bought the Hornet as an HMR replacement and wanted a handy, light carry rifle that I can use on foxes and vermin out to 200 yards. Think I've definately found that with the Hornet

Got a DM80 on order to replace the SAK. Just need to get a suitable scope to replace the old Hawke Nite Eye Digi. Thinking of a Hawke or MTC 10x44

Edited: Here's some of the plinking footage from yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aq3fr7PPm_0
