What benefit of Top Hats

I understand the benefit of using a Spring Guide, but what benefit does the Top Hat give ?

If spring is a loose fit in piston then it'll keep it central and will reduce spring noise due to no metal to metal contact

Yes but also depending on the material used it can also be used to alter the effective weight of the piston to control the bounce and also how the gun shoots pellets of different weights. It is not a simple matter to decide and to arrive at a sensible arrangement takes some experimentation.
