Loose grip on a Walther LP400.

The grip on my Walther LP400 and another that was in the club was loose. (i.e. when you shake the pistol you can feel movement.) No amount of tightening the Allen bolt removed this slight movement that must be detrimental to accuracy. It appears this is a common problem with these pistols. Ive seen the tip on the Rink web site to use a disc of emery paper between the action and the stud and Ive tried that to no avail. The stud seems tight enough.

Has anyone else come across this problem and how did they solve it?

They gave it away to a more needy cause, who's shooting was so bad a loose grip would have no noticable effect

Of the two LP400s that were used in our club (one has now been sold at a Give Away price ) both suffered from a loose grip.

Can it not be packed with a bit of silicon ?

I would think the silicon would be to flexible. I tried an 'O' ring on the bolt but that didn't remove any of the movement.

Its out of warranty and apparently its a known 'feature' of this model. I was just wondering what other LP400 owners have done - if anything.

I had a similar problem with the pistol grip on my Walther LG300XT Anatomical.

The previous owner could never fix it and neither could the UK dealer that sold it to him when new. It always had a slight movement and a slight creak that was both annoying and unnerving.

I had the chance to check-out another LG300XT Anatomical that did not have any movement in the grip and by changing the fixing bolt on mine I managed to cure it completely.

As you are local you would be welcome to come and take a look at it as I think you may have a similar "ball joint" type of mount on your LP400 as so we may be able to find a fix.

Failing that you could just leave it with me to save you any further annoyance

The LP400 and LP300 have very different grip mountings and unfortunately the wobble on the 400 is very common, the lp300 movement is normally due to the cup coming loose in the wood and can very easily be rebounded, I know 2 shooters with this exact same issue on 400's, the screw holds up tight against the inner sleave which lead me to thing it may need a small spacer under the screw head, I made one from nylon to no avail,then tried PTFE with the thought it would squash down removing any space, fitted it and it done exactly as I wanted, squashed down filled any space around the screw head and the bloody thing still wobbled, only a small amount but it would drive me round the twist.

I think I will leave the grip wobbly. Two consecutive cards I shot today. A 48 and a 50.

Its a well known fact up at the club that I often use a Wobbly Webley for a variety of reasons
