    Cool Cleaning cases

I've been reloading for a couple of months and wanted others views on cleaning brass. I've got a lyman tumbler and have left the cases in for varying amounts of time. The outsides seem to come out shinier than when they went in but the insides always look just as black. Any advice appreciated.

If you want shiny on the inside then you'll need to look at either ultrasonic or wet media tumbling with pins .
I use the latter and the insides come up lovely 😎

Thanks for replies. I've watched the clip and the cases look much cleaner than mine. I think the ultrasonic cleaner? is what I will try next. Is the one shown a purpose made one for reloading?

I looked at the Lyman ultrasonic and found you can buy it without the branding for less than half the money:

    Shop around, I think I paid £40.

The only thing missing is a plastic basket to keep the cases from touching the metal sides, I found one the right size. You don't really need to add anything to the water, certainly not acid. They're clean in and out after a few minutes (25 cases), longer if you put more cases in (50+). Then I let them dry overnight on an old towel. They're not polished, but I don't see any benefit unless you like displaying your ammo.

Dilute Citric acid added to the cleaning solution is a tried and tested method for cleaning brass cases and has been used for years. It was a recommended procedure by the NRA in the USA since about the 1980's.

It won't harm the brass, unlike ammonia based products, in fact it "pacifies" the brass and helps to limit any further corrosion.

Can u use steel media in a normal tumbler, I mean will it do the same job?
I have a Frankford Arsenal, if so how much media would I need? I think this depends on how much brass I'm going to clean?

Shouldnt think so, you'd have to run it dry and it won't work the same, definitely worth upgrading though IMO.
    Thanks for looking
