Why the SMK B2 is awesome!

Our local gun and pan shop (Trago Mills) sells the B2 for a simply staggering £31.95, if you take off the VAT thats only £26.63!

    So what's awesome about that?

Well, Mr Trago buys them from SMK (the importer) and to make it worthwhile he must be paying less than £20 for it. Lets call it £19. SMK have to sell it for £19 and make a profit, lets assume they pay around £14. But that will include import taxes, so the actual cost will be around £11. The Chinese exporter has to buy the gun from whichever factory is making it, ship it halfway across the word for £11 while still making a profit. Taking out costs I reckon they'll be buying them from the factory for about £5. Now, poor Mr Wongs Peoples Factory for Airgun Advancment has to buy the materials, pay the rent, rates, tax and wages AND sell it for £5 at a profit.

Given the costs of manufacture compared to materials I reckon theres less than £1 of materials in the gun. The fact it even works at all is simply AMAZING!

    Amazing? Yes.

    Do I want one?.......NO!

But one thing I think we can all thank it for is, I'm guessing, it will have launched many thousands' shooting careers. So, cheap and important, too.

Nick you really need to get out more, I'm seriously worried moving to the boonies was detrimental to your psychological well-being.

    LOL.

Good to hear that Christianity has reached Cornwall - I thought they were all still making sacrifices to the gods of the oak trees.

Just kidding. Lovely and special place.

By the way, your calculation misses out the delivery costs between SMK and the shop, which must be a quid or two, even in bulk.

I have no doubt every single one of my calculations is utterly wrong!

I agree, it genuinely does amaze me.

Funny thing is, if they doubled (i.e. spend an extra quid) the actual cost of manufacturing the gun, think how much better it could be
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Don't knock it until you have tried it!'

They are fantastically bad, the stock seems to be 90% filler, there is metal used in the mechanism too!

But they are fantastic for getting people into the sport! I know, I got one, then upgraded to the infinitely superior Hatsan 60S!

You can knock the exporter out of your calculations. SMK and all the other brands buy factory time to have guns made with their logo. So they are supplied direct.
Any way, what's wrong with the B2. Bought three actions and three stocks. One standard and two Customs a while back. Two .177's and a .22. They weren't complete as they had all the fitting screws missing. All brand new for a tenner.
I reckon four quid each for the Custom models and two quid for the standard one were just about right.

With mixed metal currently worth around sixty pounds a ton.

That makes the B2 seem expensive to me

The B2 is awesome. I bought mine 2nd hand (in VGC), for 15p.

    That's a standard model in .177 cal.

It's like the AK47 of airguns.

A B2 would be an excellent 'secret santa' gift for you, effendi.

As I understand you don't presently own a pellet gun.

    As salaamu 'alaykum.

Hey Nick, I hear you may be bringing out a tuning kit for the B2 to make it perform better.

Apparently the part number is 99S & it's about 200 quid!
