Tightening up a milled dovetail front sight.

Is there a simple way to tighten up a dovetail sight that because of age can move within the rail? I assume I can hammer down a little and try to bind it? Put something underneath it? I am sure there is a simple way to deal with this?

Remove the sliding part of the dovetail and give it a dink on the underside with a centre punch - this will leave a crater with raised sides. If too tight then it can be stoned down little by little, or if not tight enough give it another dink, either in the same place but harder, or in another place. Too little is easier to correct than too much.

As above, but a strip/s of coke can can also help as a shim, if its been got at before and slack in the dovetail.
