    Powder price

Maxom powder seems to be quite cheap...if you can find it. Why no powder production in the uk....

Where are you getting that FMJ from Scott, I could do with a couple of hundred?

The price of powder is NEVER going to go down is it!!! So instead of moaning about it find cheaper ways to shoot.
Cast boolits are as accurate as FMJ and take 1/2 the powder loads and will easily achieve 600 yard accuracy and more.

At 1/2 - 1/3 the speed of the jacketed counterpart with a lower BC, plus theyre not that cheap when you consider the cost of equipment and time to cast I'm sure, there are some pretty cheap manufacturers of FMJ (PPU / S&B) so can't see the benefit personally

    Powder prices

The prices might go down if we had some production in the uk...I have seen GM3...Vectan..French?...at $16 a pot in the USA and now £38 a pot in the uk....rip off Britain. Shipping costs to the USA must be greater than shipping costs to the UK.

?just part of the great plot to deprive private citizens in the uk of anything other than popguns..

Interestingly I have just ordered 3.5kg N160 through someone at our club, as far as I can tell the RFD he uses doesn't really do it for the profit just to help other shooters out. Since the 3.5 kg I bought in October his prices have gone up but only by 4% compared to the 15% plus that more mainstream dealers have put their prices up it seems.

It seems the weak pound is potentially being used as an excuse to put a blanket increase on things well above the actual costs.
    Thanks for looking

Speaking with Norman Clarke when collecting a rifle he told me that the transportation of bullets and powders has been under some scrutiny and the outcome being that RFD's will now only be able to buy in tubs of powder in 1kg max tubs from now. It went onto to that for certain deleiveries the courier had to go directly from the depot to the RFD in a single trip and then return to the depot for the next delivery. They are not allowed to make multiple drops on a delivery. In some instances the route has to be a planned route and requiring 2 persons from the courier for the journey. I think this related to expanding ammo, but sure an informed RFD on here will expand. all this is hiking up the cost of the courier services which are holding our RFD's to ransom and pushing up the prices we ultimately pay.

Having had a conversation with an RFD yesterday who goes to the continent in his LWB van and brings his own ammo back not sure I believe the above. He told us he had a van load of 50 cal ammo confiscated at one border, only to have it all returned an hour later once they knew the paper work was in order.
    Thanks for looking

Not saying I don't believe you heard it, just not sure I believe the story, for a start £5000.00 is a nice round number in sterling which the Germans don't use! I personally take a lot of things most RFDs say with a pinch of salt, (most) are simply trying to sell you stuff at a profit, often as much profit as they can justify (see post 23)

The 3.5KG cans are retail packaging.

The large bulk containers are not and are often not sold on so that prices cannot be undercut. Some have got round this as they actually produce ammunition but in reality, as long as you are under the HSE limit (or have a permit to exceed it) what difference does packaging make?

I also have purchased the 3.5kg cans of N140 with no issues.

Its all a blooody scam to keep the sodding prices up as usual.
I'm a maggot in another life you know
