    Today's Load Testing - Vhit 135

Tested a few loads today using Vhit 135. Haven't used it before. Here are the results.

Not majorly impressed and clearly more work to be done. I'm scratching my head a bit with what to do next. 25.4 seems the most stable so perhaps I need to tweak seating depth and see if that makes much difference.

Then again, perhaps I need to test 25.2 and 25.3. All groups were four shots. 25.1 looks interesting, but perhaps not stable? There's two separate groups, one through the same hole and a figure of eight to the right.

i switched powders to varget in both my 308 and .223 as its simpler keeping to one if feasible.
i kept my col in both cals and did load testing at the range.....luckily only the point of aim was off and i got thumb hole groups again.
varget is pricey but if the outcome justifies it so be it........will try it on the 8mm and 30-06 and see if that as the same outcome

I'm going through the same. Reminds me of the days of pellet testing for the air rifles. Lol
Although that was much cheaper and easier than tuning a centrefire round.

Are you using the same length as your N133 load? If so that side of things should be sorted and you just need to find the best powder weight.

I'd load up 5 rnds each of 25.1 to 25.7 at .1 gr increments.

Do you use a rear bag out of interest?

Yeah, the same Coal and I did indeed use a small, makeshift rear bean bag. Funnily enough tonight I've done exactly what you suggested there and loaded 5 rounds each from 25.1 - 25.6 in 0.1gr increments

Here's the results from today's experimentation. Targets set out at 121 yards with a 7mph 45 degree crosswind. All shots were 5 shot groups:

    Powder weights from 25.2 - 25.6gr

COAL adjustment using 25.1gr which I figured had the best potential following yesterday's results.

Think I'll stick with 25.1gr with a COAL of 2.290". I'm confident what little vertical stringing there was, was in fact down to me. It would've been helpful to have a finer dot to use as an aimpoint.

I'm sure this is a daft question but you are cleaning the rifle thoroughly after each session (not group) and not just using a pull through or some such?

Are you using the rifle for target or foxes? If foxes then all those shot today will kill it.

Yeah, it always gets a proper clean with solvent and patches after every session. The rifle is used mainly for longer range vermin bashing and long range plinking

might be a daft question but if you have used the n133 with success, why switch to another powder.....ive just done my 53`s with n133. >HERE<

Nice group and you must be nearing max pressure with that load. Only switched because they didn't have any in stock and there was a 1kg tub on offer for £50. Thought it was worth a punt!
