I try to buy locally whenever possible; that applies to all things not just shooting supplies. But, particularly with the odd household items needed to repair something I am forced to use the internet because no one stocks what I need locally. For instance, in the 'good old days' I had no problem getting electric motor brushes locally but not now. Local shops advise to buy a new machine. Similarly with some fastenings and fixings ... it can be difficult to find them locally. I can appreciate why ... the shops cannot afford to keep the stocks of spares. But still very sad as there are now times that I turn to the internet without trecking around the local shops as I feel I would waste my time if I tried to find stuff locally.
Sign of the times I guess.
    Cheers, Phil

Web shopping has put so many local retailers out of business, that there is often no alternative now but to buy online.

Retailing has been screwed in this country. Trying to buy locally has become so difficult and frustrating that the web is the wisest option.

And as for Amazon, its prices are nowhere near as competitive as they used to be. Are we surprised.

While not airgun related, we have a very local garden machinery place which sells ride on mowers, chainsaws etc. All top end stuff.

I recently found that mice had taken a liking to the rubber priming bulb on my petrol hedge trimmer. So I pop off to my local supplier to get a new one.

    £7.99 he says....

After I regain consciousness and get up off the floor, I elect to put the hedge trimming off for a day or two and buy the bulb on . £1 for 2 from a UK address, delivered in 2 days, £1 for 10 from Hong Kong, delivered in 2 weeks.

    There's margin and there's margin....

An 80x mark up is taking the p1ss....

Bearings and belts for mowers are the same. £24 for a drive belt, £4 for the same belt at the 'transmissions' company a few miles away.

    Somehow that place keeps going...

We have a very posh 'field sports' shop near us, who charges about 50% more for pellets than online and Sportsman's (who are 20 miles away), but air gunning is clearly a small sideline for them.

I was looking for a new office chair on the staples website recently, nothing fancy just a folding one and it was £16.66 ex VAT. Went into the local staples shop and took one to the till and they wanted £34.95 for it. I told the guy online it was £16.66 plus Vat and he said they couldn't price match. So I ordered it online and picked it up in the same store next day. Crazy!

We have a decent sized hardware shop in the village where I live.

It is far better stocked than Homebase and B&Q, and no more expensive. In fact cheaper in many cases.

Apart from the most expensive specialist and professional tools, it has everything from paint to sledge hammers.

I will always support this family business that has provided our community with an excellent facility.

As far as I can see, it does very good business.

I just wish some of the local gunshops were as good.

One offered me a hundred quid once for a practically mint Walther LGU in part exchange for a 500 pound gun.

What is stopping gunshops from selling online?

To my eyes, a bit like pubs moaning about fewer punters, it is a case of someone having moved their cheese
