One of my articles in AGW about ten years ago took a retro look back at one of these, when one cropped up at an auction (so I test fired it and put it through its paces for the mag etc). The one I featured in AGW was in near mint condition and worked superbly, yet it remained unsold come auction day, as didn't reach its £1,000 reserve, despite being well advertised, and in an Air Gun auction ... So given that top end values haven't increase much since 2008 (+/-), and the fact that the example you are interested in is needing some 'specialist' attention, imho, don't give more than £750 for it, tops. Hope this helps?

I think the last one that I can think of changing hands was well over £1k and possibly £2k. Think the trade was £2,200??? Whatever the price someone is willing to pay. Not many out there.

Blimey !!! ... Saw the one as mentioned in my post above -- and as stated, in lovely condition -- fail to reach £1,000, and I know of another that sold privately for £1,300 (roughly the same as buying for a grand from an auction given buyer fees and taxes etc), but £2,200 ??? Wow. There must've been two people who REALLY wanted it in the room at that sale, so as you say, whatever the price someone is willing to pay on the day. ...

Sometimes its "only live once" not many opportunities to get one, and for the older collectors with money: "sheeet death duty at 40% who cares".
If you are the type who is used to buying a new Range Rover every three years then £2k is what you pay for a set of tires! Sadly not me.

In truth I think give or take then a tad over £1k is plenty; but then I'm not collecting. I think there are more beautiful rifles to be had too, but few quite so different.

Hard to value such an unusual item as they rarely reach the market. You could test the water with whatever price you like between £1k-£2k and consider near offers. The other alternative is placing the rifle in an auction with the risk that it may not sell as Gareth points out (I remember the article btw and it was very well written) or if it does, you get hammered with fees. If it were mine, I'd advertise at a set price and consider offers.

    Best of luck,

    John

Yes only 25 made, I have one and its the star of my collection. Who else on hereeither owns one or knows the where abouts of one? Be interesting to know, as I have only ever saw one come on the market in 20 years of collecting. Cheers Roll

I believe that Helston Gunsmiths in Cornwall, who originally partnered with Mike Childs to manufacture them, have one in their private collection. As, according to the Internet, does the owner of AC Guns in St Leonards.
