    Rowntree of Barnard Castle

    Hello There
I have a Rowntree of Barnmard Castle muzzle loader. Percussion and not sure if a 12 or 14 bore - I was told that 14 was popular at the time.
I would be really interested if any boday has any information on Rowntree that they would share?
    Thank yOU

There was a branch of the family in Durham. They seemed to turn out quite a lot of transitional revolvers (percussion).

Sir, are you asking about a shotgun/fowling piece or a single-shot pistol?

    This is really odd..

    James Rowntree Barnard Castle 1826-34
    James Rowntree Penrith 1847-69
    William Rowntree Barnard Castle 1847-65
    William Rowntree Penrith 1857

    What is going on?

James was the father to William,in a newspaper article for 1828 James Rowntree lost an eye in an explosion at his gun shop in B/C it blew the shop front out,I always thought Rowntree
was just a retailer who put his name on other peoples guns, but Iv'e seen reference to "Rowntrees improved lock",more research needed.
Penrith is just over the hill (40 miles) from Barnard Castle. Graham.

    Thank you for the responses.
The shotgun is a typical early percussion muzzle loader.
