    Embarrassing moments whilst shooting.

Bu@@ered up three of the first ten shots on the course today, before realising that the stock screws weren't tight. Moral : Check the gun BEFORE you start shooting.

So, your turn, what cock ups have you comitted and not realised until it was too late? Er. shooting, that is!

I find my PCP's dont shoot very good when the stock screw it too tight or loose, gets frustrating some times when you have left your allen keys inside!

A favourite of mine is stalking a rabbit and taking a shot...only to find the bloody bolt was not locked down properly...not clever.

I once crawled for what seemed like half a mile stalking a wabbit. Took the shot, missed (early days pre PCP) so I went for another pellet.

I had sown the lot on a nice neat line as I had crawled through the grass

constantly trying to take a shot with bolt in rear position!!
best of all went to retrieve a rabbit my mate had headshot, reached down and WHACK! last twitch he jumped up and hit me in the face covering me in blood, i looked as if i was the one who had just been head shot

Sitting on the edge of a field for an hour waiting for a bunny to appear (dozens there when we arrived). A big one loped out 25 yards in front of me and stood upright without flinching a muscle. I slowly raised the rifle to my eye and took aim. Rabbit absolutely motionless. Squeezed the trigger slowly, and a low pop emitted from the silencer. Watched in anticipation through the scope.

Hang on, how come it's not dead. Worse than that it's not even concerned as it slowly went back into the hedge. Why isn't it an ex-bunnie? All became apparent as I lowered the gun only to see a partially shot through bramble that had been about an inch in front of the barrel.

Live and learn eh? The golf course behind the field then started mowing and I didn't see another one all morning. I went home having fired one pellet in 3 hours. At least it wasn't raining and think of all the money I saved on ammunition.

Stalking in close to a rabbit, taking my shot only to hear the pellet squeal as it ricochets away. Look up from my scope to see the rabbit running away and realising I had just shot a (rabbit coloured) stone. D'oh!

    Two things spring to mind:-

    1. Taking part in a mini-rifle competition using a Ruger 10/22, start with action open, safety on, buzzer goes, load 25 shot banana magazine, close the bolt, release the safety, take up the shooting postion and knock the extended magazine release and the mag drops onto the ground.... great hilarity all round.

    2. Two weeks ago participating in a Practical Shot-Gun comp, half way through a string of shots and the recoil must have loosened the screws on the holo-sight and that hits the ground as well.. More laughs all round...

me and peter d were out shooting last winter and we'd bagged a few bunnies and decided to make for home . we were on the path in pete's truck heading out of the shoot when i saw black rabbit on the path so i ask pete to stop. i take aim, (its dark by the way) and pete says what is that on the path. to late i had taken the shot. pete turns on the truck's headlamps and is wetting himself laughing. i had just shot my black hat and gloves that i had dropped earlier.
