I haven't got the sizes to hand mate (I'm at work at the mo) but you need TWO drills - one the size of the screw shank (the threaded part less the width of the actual thread) and a slightly larger one the same size as the unthreaded section of the screw. If you try doing it with one drill you are likely to either split the stock or find that the stud won't hold firmly - errr, dropped rifle.

    I hope this helps.

PS Make sure the stock is firmly held (padded Workmate or similar) and use a bit of tape to stop the bit skidding.

Start with a 5.5mm drill to a depth of 3mm followed by a 4.5mm drill to a depth of 13mm for the fore-end stud and 20mm rear end.

I don't know what you call it, but the Uncle Mike's studs have a fairly coarse wood screw type thread (parallel not tapered, flat ended so they can only be used with a predrilled pilot hole). Have a look the pic at the bottom of this page

Yeah, i was wondering as my S10 has a thin front end and wondered about fitting a nut on the inside of the stud for a firmer fixing.

Just Drill a pilot hole with 1/8" bit and carefully turn the stud in using a piece of bar through the stud hole. Don't drill to big a hole to start with or the thread will pull out.

I've fitted studs to 2 Super 10's with no problem but they are only good for bipods as the front stud is too close to the rear to be effective for a sling unless you carry the gun muzzle down.

If its a super 10 rifle fit a barrel sling swivel.
