    Rifle Shooting? What a Doddle!

I mean, how hard can it be? The shooter gets to use two hands and has a long sight base, piece of cake…

Anyway, after taking my renovated Haenel 303s for its first outing to the range, I can only conclude that I need one of those attractive all-over leather body trusses to improve my floppy posture…
Perhaps I should try bell-target; I mean, how hard can THAT be?

I was only able to console myself over my poor riffle results by shooting a 96/100 card with my trusty P34.
Too many guns, or not enough time?

Although the Haenel does not appear in any current world cup results, its not about the kit, its all about technique.

You could buy my book, and learn where you are going wrong?

Buy Robins book and a gimp jacket you will shoot better and be able to frighten people at the same time.

Is there such a thing as owning too many guns?

Do the jackets have an option of a matching mask?

I remember having a go with a target rifle in the early eighties, no-one had the leather gear at the club I went to, just a strange hunched posture that involved jamming the elbow of the supporting arm into the hip area. Maybe that spare tyre lurking there is causing me to wobble around? I must confess to being a bit of a minimalist when it comes to shooting aids...

My birthday is coming up soon, so I might just get the book, but I think I will stick to pistol for the competitions for now.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

I think it is more of a magazine than a book...

Sorry, I posted here by mistake, I thought it was a serious target section.

Many apologies Robin, I was getting giddy with excitement at my new-found interest in target rifle shooting.

    Regards,

    Mark.

We use our 303s for bell target most Tuesdays. I found it difficult to get consistent until I started experimenting with barrel weights (i.e 2p's and electrical tape).

A total of 5x2p taped to the end of the barrel and I can get 29/30 most night. It's a great gun in my opinion. Not sure how other people rate them though

Hi Dan, I have got in mind the possibility of weighting the barrel; not quite as sophisticated as the guy in the US who does the airgun blogs, but I like your idea to experiment with something readily available and repeatable.

I have been pleased with the results from the rifle when rested, it gives reasonably consistent groups; there is some muzzle lift, but I am certain it is happening after the pellet has left the barrel.

A copy of Robin's book sounds like the right tonic to sort out the wobbly blob hanging on to the stock...

    Cheers,

    Mark.
