Is there a (Chrony) Doctor in the House ?

My Chrony F1 appears to be dying !
Any one know of anywhere I can get a "diagnosis" ?
Took it out this morning in good light with a new battery and just got "gobble-di-gook" on the screen and eventually faded to nothing, no way could I get the normal "AL" reading to begin.

Bought it new about 15 years ago and its been kept indoors in a stable environment with fairly regular use but not heavy.

How long do these things last, does anyone repair them and are they worth repairing ?

The behaviour you describe is consistent with a duff battery, or perhaps a poor battery connection.

The battery is a brand new Duracell.
I checked the contacts and wiring and all appears to be solid. The only other thing may be a damaged wire or connection somewhere I cannot see it ?

It could still be a duff battery. I'd certainly check the voltage or try another, first.

If you visit Wilmslow area I have test meters and a basic fault finding knowledge of electronics.

Also got a chrony to compare it with.

I do occasionally get to Sheffield as well.

    alpha has a remote

    http://www.airgunbbs.com/showthread....y-F1-and-Alpha

from Gwylan on the above thread

The Alpha is much better than the F1, as it displays HI, LO, Average, Spread, and Standard Deviation. We have a Skan at the club, and it's a bit fiddly to use. The Chrony is better down range, as you have more area to aim at. I've set mine out at 55 yards, and got some fascinating results from different rifles and pellets. If you're just using a chrono to check power, go for the Combro
