Solving the Haenel 28-R pellet mystery

Ok, I'm in love with these pistols. The repeating mechanism is very well executed, but it was designed 80 years ago for pellets that probably don't exists now. I have the .177 and the .22 and current round balls can tend to just roll out the barrel. I read that these may work best with "cat slugs"? I saw these slug pellets made in England for outdated rifles. That are slightly larger than .22?

Anyone solve this one? H&N has a slightly oversized .177 I am going to try.
