If you use beech then you'll have a job matching it to the colour of the stock, unless you varnish it. It won't take stain that well.
If I were you I'd choose a different timber, accept it will have a colour difference, and stain it in its natural colour. Personally I'd make it out of a piece of oak, and stain it with a Georgian oak stain, finish it with Black Bison dark oak polish.

yeah, ive been thinking about the colour problem quite a bit, even thought about hydrodipping it. but to be honest colouring it pink with felt tip pens would look better than it does now lol
Could always visit you local car boot or even recycling place and search out an old chair and use a leg or arm etc. Might work?
