The foresight on a rifle I've just bought isn't straight. So much so, that even with the rear sight adjusted as far as it will go, the gun still shoots wide.
It seems very securely attached to the rifle barrel.
Is this an easy thing to fix? And if so, how?!
SMK XS18
I can't budge it.
I've seen a recommendation to use a hairdryer to soften up the glue then a mallet to bump it off. I'm worried about damaging the barrel and how I go about fixing it in place again, once it's off.
When you say the front sight is twisted what do you mean? The front sight unit is fixed to the barrel. Are you trying to remove it to fit a silencer as per your other thread? If so you will need to heat it to loosen the glue then knock it off with a baton.
He bought it from me and it was fine
It was sold with a scope and mounts also.
Maybe it has been knocked, but if so the front sight unit would be moving and not solidly fixed to the barrel.
My advice if it is "off" is to gently heat with a hairdryer to loosen the glue and then move it into desired position.
Hope this helps

Didn't (and don't) want this thread to be contentious. Nick and I have exchanged PMs and have different views on the cause, but it was a cheap gun, I don't want an argument, and just want advice on how to fix it.
I'll give the hairdryer a go.
Can anyone who's done this before recommend a glue to use to fix it back on?

might not need glued on again if its a tight fit when cold.
if you want to glue it, try Loctite. it will come off if you heat it .just in case it moves again.
some have used boiling water. boil the water and stick the muzzle end in the water. but make sure you dry and oil the metal work after you re glue the sight back on .
