I'm currently shooting a CP-1 in 177 ad quite enjoying it.

Would I be disappointed if I spent money on a 2240?

I have had a 2240 however, and I would hazard a guess that in stock form -Yes, you might be... BUT thats not the reason to buy one.
The reason to buy one is that it's the most customisable gun on sale today.
It doesn't cost the earth to do and when you've got it how you want it, it's the CP-1 which will not float your boat anymore.

If you want a project, and you love to tinker, you can have fun with a 2240.

But straight out of the box you will be disappointed - the trigger is pretty terrible, and key parts are made from cheap plastic: They are a much better gun at their original $ price point, than at the price we pay for them.

If you go down the route of customisation, you will spend a lot of money getting it to a level that other airguns enjoy as standard, though in and of itself the customisation can be interesting and enjoyable.

The only original parts on my 2240 and 2250b are the barrels, gas tube, and valve (though this has been modified.). Financially worth it? No way. But there is some pleasure to be had in the process, and the end result of a gun that is completely unique to you.

If you do go down this route, pick up the 2240 second hand and at least make a small saving at the start.

I've had both and now have the SMK pp700w .
As others have said the 2240 is fun and there are plenty of mods you can do to it .
The CP1 in my opinion is crying out to be a target pistol , quite accurate and addictive.
The SMK is precharged so a different ball game.
Out of the 3 I'd say the CP1 was the most accurate and least pellet fussy.
The 2240 is just out and out fun , I put a silencer on mine for use in the garden .
The SMK I'm still getting used to.

The customising thing doesn't hugely appeal to me, I might go as far as putting some wood on it but no more.

...unless one comes up very cheap.

Indeed. If you get lucky, and pick up a used one for £50, go for it

Do not buy a new one and put £150 of "mods" on it.

That's quite fascinating. I can see the appeal, but I don't think it's for me.
