Is the Rekord unit the exception rather than the rule?

Evening,

I can't say I've shot loads of air rifles so my experience may be limited but is the Rekord really the pinnacle of trigger design?

I've yet to shoot anything I prefer and think is better.

Given that the trigger is a really important part of the experience, why aren't all manufacturers producing a trigger unit of the same standard?

Perhaps Hatsan comes close, but what about BSA / Gamo, Walther and the rest?

I so often see stuff for sale on here that I quite fancy but I go back to thinking "...but will I like the trigger?" since that's a key part of the process for me.

Thoughts?

The thing is, when I was first looking for an air rifle I nearly bought a BSA Lightening (personally, I don't think they're as bad as the press they get) but I didn't because the trigger blade was plastic.

Contact points are really important, just look at your car. Some well chosen finishing can change the feel of something, surely the manufacturers are aware of this?

The match trigger used on the BSA Super 10 was very nice, up there with the Quattro as a minimum. Probably just under the Rekord and just over the Quattro.

The Quattro is pretty good too - better than a CD, but not quite a Rekord...

Both the Record and CD triggers can be made much better with a bit of fettling and polishing. I can get either to break between 3/4 and 1 lb pull on the second pressure with no graunch or creep and not releasing when "bumped".

I have rifles with the Rekord and rifles with the Air-Arms CD.

Both triggers are superb and yet both are quite simple designs and very, very effective

In their native state, I don't really have a favourite between the two as both are as crisp and predictable as could be.

My Rekords have been tweaked by Mr. Luke Jolly for target shooting, and they are sublime to shoot with

My CD will be going off to Mr. Jolly soon.

The Rekord unit is often copied ( C.D., Mach 1) but rarely bettered unless you go into the world of 10m match shooting.

So, what we're saying is that your average rifle setup is going to have a less than wonderful trigger? I'm asking a bit much if I'm after a Rekord / CD / etc... experience from every rifle that I shoot?

I can only speak for springers or variations thereof.

The Rekord is still the best springer trigger IMO.

I was never impressed by the AA CD unit, which I found vague and spongy.

Like anything else an individual can only judge by what they have experience of,
so anyone can say "my xxx rifle has a fantastic trigger" and to them that will be true if it's the best that they have used.

I like the accu-trigger on my Ruger American, and both the mk3 & mk4 on my Rapids, but the Rekord on my HW60 is a class above.

So Yes, I'd say it is the exception, out of the box.

So, are there any single stage triggers that are memorable for the right reasons?

The single stage on my Gamo, even after modding, isn't.
