Always swap stock screws for Allen headed screws, solves the problem and looks better than chewed up slotted screws.

I prefer hollow ground screwdrivers, but have had a few broken tips, and not on anything really tight either.
I have the Pachmyr set. It has 12 parallel ground flat bits, which ensures a fit in the majority of screws. Not the finest quality, I'm sure, but for casual diy use, I've no complaints.

I have found that wera diamond tip screwdrivers are very good as they grip the screw and stop it from slipping and damaging the finish off the screws
They are not to badly priced as you can pick up a set for £20 or individual sizes of different lengths as an Machine engineer I use these on a daily basis and they last year's
