Comparing my tuned HW97s + slow motion

I have done another video comparing my tuned 97s. I think this one is a bit more useful as I have included slow motion footage of the shot cycle of each gun. Quite interesting.
In the next week or so I will hopefully be receiving a 22mm skirtless piston kit from Tony Leach for my TX - so I will be assembling that and comparing it against the best of my 97s too

All ready for the boinger bash too!! Can't wait

If the skirtless piston is anything like my LGU that Tony did,you won't be disappointed.

Wow, the shot cycle on the 3rd is positively dead.
I have a 97k nikel with a vmach kit which is lovely. I am about to add a TBT short stroke extension on the weekend to try to combat some of the bounce/recoil but i can see it progressing to a v-glide / new piston type set up as we go.

    These things are addictive.

ref skirtless pistons, I'm pretty much off of these now have played with them, and I know a few others have come to the same conclusions. the spring just isn't very well supported with no skirt, leading to kinks / shortened spring life. You can make a light ally skirted piston, so no real reason not to as long as you can get a suitable OD mainspring.
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

I documented the changes in the following video mate - although since I did this I have removed the poly O ring head and replaced it with the parachute seal to get the power back up to 11 ft / lbs
He built me a hybrid piston which is very much lighter than the stock piston. The video shows the comparative weights

Finally someone talking sense ! only instance for the skirtless is at less than 21mm diameter comp tube as you cant get a spring in, then you have to have the piston long enough to stop it cocking over and jamming which limits power, or you run the rod in the guide again limiting power ,( I haven't had a 20mm working yet) I am all for lightweight full pistons as you know , are you going to the bash ?

Good advice from both Nick and Jon. I'm not that enamoured with small diameter pistons either, anything under 24mm seems very temp sensitive and makes eliminating combustion a pain.

Combustion can be a problem , but there are a couple of tricks , to avoid this . I have found the opposite to be the case as far as temp shift is concerned .

I find temp sensitivity much the same with a parachute seal on a 22mm (HW45 seal), but I guess Nick's o-rings should be less temp sensitive.

Nick, I am indeed going to the bash; be good to see you again. Although I have no new tunes, just my trusty 22mm TX, 25mm PE and 24mm HW80. And a 1920 BSA L that I converted to synth for fun

Artful, you would really enjoy it; any chance you can make this one ?
