Cheers all. Yep when shooting in the garage I always wear goggles as I've had the odd pellet come back at me
So it would appear that for actually blasting holes in things a .177 will be preferable. That's interesting

I wear my cap sideways, hold the pistol at an angle and effect a gold tooth.........the pellets are afraid to come back.

The 177 will have greater penetration, but 22 will have more whacking power.

I wish I was in the land of cotton.
If you want to "whack" then .22 is the way forward. Also sweeter to shoot as the internals are under less working load than the .177. The larger calibre is great out to 15m especially with a light wadcutter like the previously mentioned RWS Hobby.
Is this thread for real? Best calibre for shooting baked bean tins? Verily the mind doth boggle!

I'm so sorry your mind is boggled.. It seemed a fair question based on what I enjoy doing. As "plinking" appears to be a fairly common way to spend ones time with an air pistol, I thought I'd ask the opinion of others on here related to the best calibre to use in a specific gun
