Help with Walther LP53 date etc

    Hi,
Just been given a Walther LP53 in pretty good shape , serial number 005324. Not knowing anything about them I've doing some digging and have discovered they are quite collectable.

I plan to keep it and shoot it , any tips on lubing as it seems quite dry, and help with manufacturing date would be appreciated.
    Thanks A

Very cool, that is a very early serial number 1953-4 I think. There is a serial number list on the net, but can't seem to find it. But that could very well be the first year? These are low tech pistols with leather seals. I just used SAE 30 ND oil on mine. Need some pics!

    Thanks guys!
It's a bit earlier than I thought then, from the list it was made in 1953.
I fired 3 shots today to try it out 1-212fps, 2-212 ,3- 215 with 8.2 grain pellet so it's a bit down on what I've seen they normally give.
    I've ordered a new breech seal .
I know how the springs are removed so will probably clean and relube them.
Is it feasible to try and introduce some lube for the leather washer via the transfer port as it seems removing the piston is a bit more complicated.
    Thanks again.A

You can put drops of oil on the spring and in transfer port. May need to soak it up a bit if the leather is dry.

just see my Walther LP53 post under air pistols.
I can give you 450 fps to 500 fps dependent on your needs.
You can easily clean the gun out and run it on some Bisley gun oil with a touch of white grease on the mainspring.
Dont touch it with Moly under any circumstances ..
Failing that ill full service and tune it for you if you prefer .

I make it 1954 from the list, not 1953?

I got my 1955 to shoot a little over 400 fps with just putting some oil in it. It was in just about mint shape when I got it. If you get in the 300s I would be happy. That gets you out to pistol target range. They are very accurate pistols. I think the best opens sights I have on a pistol.

Thanks for the info and kind offer.
I'll probably have a go myself first , if I get stuck I know where to come.
Out of interest why no moly ?
And when you say white grease do you mean lithium grease ?
    Cheers A

Moly is deadly with the aluminium tube and will pick up when burnished by the steel piston.
Use Sandwell field sports ST grease which is more towards the Lithium type grease.
Ive had no problems with Bisley mineral oil for leather washer....not the spray but can with the nozzle....you will need that .

I put a few drops of some sae30 oil I had to hand , introduced via the transfer port and left it to soak for 4-5 days. Tried it today and fired 6 shots to clear it and then measured velocity on cb625. I'm now getting around 270 fps .
The new breach seal has now arrived and will fit it soon and measure again before going any further.
    Cheers all.
