tophat and or slipwasher stuck in piston how do I get it out.

Tap it onto something solid. start softly onto a bit of wood but don't be afraid to get serious onto a solid concrete floor. the latch rod is pretty hard.

You could try wrapping thin wire around the spring end coil until it grips the top hat tightly, then twist the spring clockwise as you try to pull the top hat out with it.

I often use a spring with a slightly smaller ID than the spring the top hat was made for --- just force it on the top hat and pull.

It's also worth soaking the end of the piston in petrol as grease in front and around the top hat can hold it in.

Ah, in that case :-

Weld a self tapping screw onto the end of a rod and screw it into the top hat and pull --- a pilot hole can be made with the red hot end of a thin welding rod.

Another way is to put a small bend onto the end of a thin welding rod to form an L shaped end --- get that red hot and push into the top hat and while it's deep in and still hot turn it though 90 degrees and allow to cool.
Once cool simply pull on the welding rod.

Twisting the spring one way it will expand the other it will tighten, it might tighten enough to remove,

if not try putting it in the freezer overnight, cold metal shrinks,
then try to warm the piston to expand it, without warming the spring & that might get them apart.

As Angry bear said, put in the freezer, at least 24hrs though. Get everything read ie wood block to bash it on. Fill a cup with boiling water or better still have a pan on the stove with water simering. Get the piston out of the freezer, dip the piston crown ( top) in boiling water, just the top area, only a few seconds, you want the outside to expand & keep the inside frozen, grip hard & bash it down on the wood slide hammer effect to jar the top hat loose, quickly repeat hot water dip, tap a few more times & repeat be brave & whack it. You have very little time before the top hat warms up & expands.

thank you all for the advice did not like to heat and cool a hardened piston so went with hot wire , this turned it toa black brittle gunge that came out in bits along with 4 metal washers that took up almost half inch in piston, no wonder I strugled to remove spring ,
now its appart any advice on improving its shooting ,

Freezing in a domestic freezer & heating in "just" boiling water will not affect the metle / grain structure & in engineering terms is not heat treatment
