Ballistol, but which one?

Intrigued by a post in the Collectors Corner I thought I give this Ballistol stuff a go, but which one do you use on blued action?

There seems to be loads of choice here:

Is it the Universal stuff or the Gunex?

Do you spray it onto a rag and then wipe the gun or directly onto the action and wipe it off with a cloth.

I have normally used an oily rag or a silicone cloth before...

I use Universal for everything. The special stock 'oils' are in fact varnishes, like Tru Oil - good for what they are intended, but not what you'd want on a barrel or action! No idea about Gunex - never felt the need. I don't use sprays of any sort as they make too much mess, and there's too much chance of oil or whatever going where you don't want it. I sometimes use a cloth, but usually just my fingers, or a small syringe for precision lubing.

Yep. Universal for everything. I keep a cloth rag which has had Universal liquid from the glass bottle applied and then kept in a sealed plastic sandwich style bag. Attached to my gun cabinet by a magnetic clip. Lasts for years.

Again, keeping them sealed between uses with a spring clip.

Many years ago I bought a tin of Balistol, and a "pen" that you can refil with Balistol, then "draw" a thin film of oil where ever you want.. it like a marker pen for oil...

I buy it in 500 ml tins and then decant into a 50ml pump spray bottle. Because it is compatible with metal, wood and leather, it can be applied reasonably liberally with impunity.

I get empty vaping containers from my mate to put different oils in, after a good wash-out. They have quite a fine tip for precision application, not as fancy as an amazon one, but free!

I chose the universal oil after a long look into oils. I also chose it because it's ok on your skin.

And the big benefit to me is that it doesn't matter too much if it does get on the wood as it doesn't damage it, unlike most mineral oils.

Almost every used shotgun I've seen on sale has a black 'line' on the wood, just where it joins the action. That's mineral oil damage....
