I was speaking with a very experienced shooter today and we got round to discussing brand new, virgin barrels and whether as they 'wore in' the poi would change. Maybe the new barrel had rough rifling that changed the characteristics (ballistics) of a pellet from the normally accepted ballistics from a well used, but not worn out, barrel. We were not discussing accuracy changes per se, we accepted that accuracy could be excellent but with a very slow movement of the poi as the barrel rifling went from virgin, just cut, state (that cut crude rifling marks on the pellet) to a well leaded, smoothed out state that left smoother more regular rifling marks.
We reached no conclusions and so the conversation ended with questions unanswered.
Maybe it was a silly few minutes... but hey, that's what it is all about. Let the mind run free.
Any opinions?
Cheers, Phil
